Kid Cams

This is what happens when you let little kids borrow your digital camera.

"Dancing" with the Hai Chau Kids.

After teaching a filmmaking / videography session, the kids from the Hai Chau Community Home created this video. They came up with the idea and the plot. Kong (the kid with his shirt off) was the director. The kids literally told me (via Tam, our ever-talented translator) what to shoot and how to shoot it. I just set up the camera and pressed record and stop.... and then added a little music. We got to screen the short film there at the orphanage. The kids cheered and laughed.

Youtube Off - Bad Music Videos

Last night we had a good ol' fashioned youtube off. I'm sure you're familiar with this tradition. It starts with one person saying, "hey I have to show you this video on youtube"... then someone is like... 'yeah, that's funny, but have you seen this!" And bam, out of thin air we have a youtube off. Here's the play-by-play from last night's youtube off.

It all started with the question, "What is the worst music video you've ever seen?" I quickly searched this one... I have to say, I've never feel stranger than I do after watching this video.

Then someone responded with this one... it has major early 90s factor.

Then, this music video took it to the next level

That's where it ended. It was a good youtube off.

Kids Making Movies!

This is my favorite short film from this year's SATO 48. It was made by the kids of my friend, Frank Gonzales. He let them write and shoot it. It is beautiful.

Giving it Back to Kids

A few months ago I visited Vietnam with my good friends, Sesha, Jen and Reese at Convey Studios. We had the pleasure of working with Giving it Back to Kids, a nonprofit corporation that has one goal in mind: serving the orphans and widows of Vietnam. They brought us over to take photos and video so they could share the work they were doing with people back home. Somewhere along the way I got overwhelmed with the goodness they were bringing to the community and found myself in tears multiple times a day. Something amazing happens inside you when you see a forgotten, parent-less child receive a hug from an adult who cares about them. Something amazing happens when, in front of your eyes, an impoverished family is given not just a home and a means of living but dignity. The videos that follow are a gratis project I did for Giving it Back to Kids in order to express my thanks for allowing me to be a part of something so beautiful and redeeming. Check them out for yourself: www.givingitbacktokids.org

Fish Eyes

Some of my very first fisheye images from our trip to Asia... and then there's a few from Kansas City.

Shooting Mute Math in Nashville

Production on the Mute Math documentary has finally begun. I've been in Nashville for the past two days gathering footage. We're planning to go to New Orleans sometime soon to start recording. Apparently we're waiting on some recording gear. There has been a fair amount of drama involved in the process of moving and I'm sure you'll hear all about it when you watch the documentary. From what I hear I have to be sort of careful about posting video or audio or screenshots of the time we spend here so just hang in there... we'll have some images really soon.
